Looking for natural pain relief? If you want to buy kratom capsules, you better hurry. Depending on where you live, you might not have long to buy them.
In February 2014, the FDA issued an import alert on dietary supplements containing kratom. And more recently, in 2016, kratom was almost classified as a Schedule 1 substance by the Drug Enforcement Agency.
However, thanks to thousands of public comments, the DEA withdrew its intent to place kratom as a schedule 1 substance. Schedule 1 classification criminalizes the possession or sale of a substance.
Six U.S. states, one county in Florida, and the city of San Diego have banned the ability to buy kratom capsules as of this writing. The states with the ban are Alabama, Arkansas, Indiana, Tennessee, Vermont, and Wisconsin.
The DEA’s decision to not go ahead with placing the substance as an illegal drug appears to be only temporary. Therefore, you might want to stockpile if you’re looking to use kratom. (Provided you live in an area where it’s still legal.)
What is kratom?
In case you’ve never heard of it, kratom is an herb that’s been used as natural medicine for centuries. It’s indigenous to Southeast Asia. People use this herb for pain relief, enhanced energy and concentration, and opiate addiction recovery.
However, the problem with kratom is that it’s sometimes sold commercially and mixed with synthetic ingredients. States that have banned the ability to buy kratom capsules have done so in part because it’s an ingredient found in products sold at gas stations and drug paraphernalia shops. Some of these products containing the herb promise a natural high.
But for thousands of people with chronic pain, kratom offers a natural solution without negative side effects that often come with prescription drugs. Without doubt, some proponents of the supplement believe the impetus to ban the herb on a federal level is because of lobbying from the pharmaceutical industry.
After all, if all pain sufferers and those trying to kick opiates use kratom, that would take a big chunk of profit away from the pharmaceutical industry.
How is kratom used?
The leaves of the kratom plant can come in powdered or liquid form. But you can buy kratom capsules from several online vendors. The capsules are the most convenient way to get the benefits of the herb. Depending on the dosage and strain, these herbal pills can have a relaxant, sedative effect. Or, kratom can act like a mild stimulant.
However, if you’re curious about kratom capsules, you won’t find them at your local GNC. The supplements containing the herb were pulled from the shelves at GNC a few years ago. The retail giant likely discontinued selling the supplement because of its murky legal status.
Kratom may offer chronic pain sufferers relief without feeling like a zombie. In addition, users say there’s no danger of addiction and overdose.
On the contrary, kratom seems to have a safety mechanism whereby if you take too much of it, it’ll make you throw up. Because of this, advocates believe kratom capsules are an easy way for prescription pain addicts to withdraw safely.
How do kratom capsules work?
It’s believed that the herb works by connecting and activating the same opioid receptors that oxycontin acts on to dull pain. However, kratom capsules won’t make you feel like a couch potato, advocates of the herbal supplement contend.
Many believe the supplement should not be listed in the same category as heroin and ecstasy. Because of the medicinal benefit and the fact that over 2 million people in the U.S. alone are addicted to opiates, advocates are against banning kratom.
As of now, the DEA considers kratom a drug of concern. Manufacturers of natural supplements do not have to seek FDA approval for their products like food and drug companies do. But the agency has issued warnings about kratom capsules due to side effects ranging from vomiting, hallucinations and aggression.
In addition to pain relief and opiate addiction recovery, users say the kratom supplements can also help with depression and anxiety. When used with caution, the herb has many benefits.
Is there any research supporting the claims?
There is some preliminary clinical research to support the use of pure, unadulterated kratom capsules. A researcher from the University of Mississippi found that a tea made from the main active chemical component of kratom (mitragynine) blocked all withdrawal symptoms in methadone-addicted mice.
The lead researcher of the study concluded kratom, “could provide a remarkable step-down-like treatment for people addicted to hardcore narcotics such as morphine, oxycodone or heroin,” the University of Mississippi’s website reports.
If you buy kratom capsules made from the extracts of this chemical component it may eliminate some of the negative side effects. If taken at the right dosage, extract capsules don’t have the same adverse effects as the tea or powdered form of kratom leaf.
How many capsules should I take?
According to this blogger, don’t take any capsules. “Don’t buy Kratom extracts, just buy crushed Kratom leaves or buy whole leaves if you have a quality source,” the blogger advises.
But not everybody has access to the crushed leaves. Also, not everyone has the time to make their own tea.
Therefore, many people look to buy kratom capsules.
According to one website devoted to the herbal supplement, taking five-to-seven 2.5mm-sized capsules (size “00”) will produce a mild stimulating, euphoric effect, while 8-11 capsules will produce either medium-strength stimulatory or sedative effects. And, people using kratom capsules for opiate addiction recovery may require larger doses.
As mentioned above, kratom may indeed cause vomiting, especially at larger doses. The recommendation is to start with the lowest dosage if you are a new user.
How to buy kratom capsules online
Like any other herbal supplement, the best kratom capsules are pure extracts that contain fresh, ground kratom. You’ll need to do some research to determine if a particular online company selling kratom capsules is selling a high quality herbal product. For those looking to buy kratom capsules, look for products from reputable vendors
In addition, you’ll also need to determine what you want out of a kratom supplement. Do you want the kratom capsule to make you feel relaxed? Or do you want it more for pain relief? You can also use kratom for its stimulating properties. So the best kratom capsules for you might not be best for somebody else.
Kratom extract capsules contain highly concentrated amounts of the herb’s active medicinal compounds. While it would be convenient to chew kratom leaves as many people do in Southeast Asia, here in the U.S., for most people that’s not an option. As noted above, not everybody has the time to cook elaborate recipes or make herbal teas.
For this reason, many people buy kratom extract capsules. The question is, for how long will they be legally able to do so?
