Easy Ways to Use Coconut Oil for Healthier Skin and Hair

As you are already aware, coconut oil has some profound health effects so you probably already keep it in your kitchen. However, it’s a great beauty product as well and you should keep a jar in the bathroom, too! Below are the top uses of coconut oil for hair and skin that will have you looking and feeling better!

1. Dry Hands

Whether it’s during the cold months or you just have moisture starved hands, coconut oil can be used as an excellent hand moisturizer to add fluids back to your hands. Simply apply a small amount of liquid coconut oil to your hands after washing them and watch as your dry hands are flourished with hydration. Solid coconut oil can also be used similar to how normal, chemically processed moisturizers would be used. Just add a small amount to your hands and lather.

2. Body Scrubs

Are you tired of spending exorbitant amounts of money on body scrubs to have your skin glow? Look no further than the ingredients in your kitchen to make a body scrub of your own for only a fraction of the cost. Using 1/2 cup of coconut oil, heat over low heat and apply approximately one cup of brown sugar or salt and mix well. To add a zest to your body scrub, add a few drops of your favorite extract or essential oil to really make it pop.

3. Cleanse Your Facial Pores

Having consistent acne that will not go away with conventional dermatological products? Over-the-counter and prescription topical creams can be expensive so why waste your money on something that is not going to work? As you may already know, coconut oil is naturally antibacterial and anti-fungal. Simply take a small amount of coconut oil and lather in circular motions all over your face and neck if desired. Upon finishing, just wash off with any cleanser and feel your cleaner pores!

4. Have a Better Shave

Shaving cream can be expensive, but most importantly it contains toxic chemicals that are not good for your skin. By switching to coconut oil you can feel better that your skin is in good hands. Just apply like you would with normal shaving cream and shave! Coconut oil is cheaper, antibacterial, and leaves your skin smelling fresh and fully hydrated without the greasy appearance.

5. Condition Better

You may not be aware but coconut oil is finding its way in conditioners as well. It penetrates hair better, and consequently helps prevent protein loss. Place a quarter size amount in your hair, comb it through, leave your hair in a bun overnight, and rinse out the next morning with shampoo or a gentle cleanser. The results will shock you!
