There are so many awesome essential oils that it would be impossible to just pick one! That being said if you are only able to have a few essential oils in your personal collection, then be sure lavender is one of them! Lavender is great to have on hand and is awesome for using with children, pets and cleaning (but more on that in another post). Here are some very practical lavender essential oil uses that your family can use lavender on a regular basis!

5 Awesome Lavender Essential Oil Uses

Get a Restful Sleep:

Lavender is excellent in helping to promote feelings of relaxation! Have a bath before bed and add a few drops of lavender to help you unwind from the busy day. If you don’t have time for a bath, don’t fret! Add a few drops of lavender to the diffuser in your bedroom or add a drop to your pillowcase to help you drift off to dreamland!

Soothe Irritated Skin:

Lavender is definitely one of the top oils you will want to have on hand when it comes to your skin! Lavender is perfect for applying to those pesky bug bites to help reduce the itch! Use lavender if you have been exposed to the sun for longer than you had intended. Apply lavender to those red blotches to help reduce redness and soothe your skin.

Calm an Upset Tummy:

Lavender is great for little ones when they are have an upset tummy! Dilute 1 drop of lavender essential oil in 1 teaspoon of carrier oil (i.e. fractionated coconut oil or jojoba oil) and apply to their little tummy. If using lavender on infants, be sure to dilute one drop in 1 tablespoon of carrier oil. If you are worried that they will lift their shirts up and potentially get lavender in their eyes then apply the combo to their feet instead and add a pair of socks. But be sure to read the essential oil safety tips to keep you and your family safe when using on children.

Ease Tension:

Since lavender is great for promoting relaxation, it is also very helpful in soothing muscle tension. If you need to relax your muscles after a workout (or even a long day) simply apply lavender to the area that is causing you discomfort and you will notice that it helps your body to relax.

Calm Upset Feelings:

If you are feeling worried, nervous or simply ‘on edge’, be sure to grab your lavender essential oil! Apply 1-2 drops to the palms of your hands and rub your hands together. Then cup your hands over your nose and slowly breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth. This will help you to gain control of your breathing and the aroma of the lavender will help you to feel relaxed. You can learn about all of the essential oils that help with mood here.
