The costs are high with organic farming, but if it became more mainstream with larger companies jumping on board, perhaps costs could be lowered.

It’s not worth it. Lower the prices and I promise there will be a bigger profit✌🏼️

It states ” It is true that pesticides are not used when growing organic produce.” THIS IS NOT CORRECT. “Organic” does not mean “pesticide free”. Pesticides and other chemicals may be used on organic products, but they must be derived from natural sources rather than being synthetically manufactured. In most states, organic farmers are allowed to use a wide variety of pesticides and chemicals on their crops.

I hear so many people referring to organic produce as pesticide free – this could not be further from the truth. So many people think you don’t even have to wash organic produce for this reason – believe me, pyrethrin and rotenone, two commonly used organic pesticides, are nothing you want to eat. Rotenone, for all it’s an “organic” pesticide is extremely toxic to fish and other aquatic life. Pesticide runoff into streams and other waterways is a major effect of commercial farming of any kind. Fish die and become contaminated from rotenone just as easily as from synthetic pesticides.

Some organic pesticides have also been shown to have carcinogenic effects. These are poisons, plain and simple. What is more, much larger amounts of them (sometimes seven times as much pesticide is used for the same effect) must be used to get the same effect as synthetic pesticides, so the pollution of the environment with these organic pesticides is an issue.

The only way to be sure your produce is pesticide free is to buy it from a producer you personally know, or grow it yourself (and as soon as people try growing their own produce on any scale, they begin to see why pesticides are used in large scale farming.) Food labeled “pesticide free” are supposedly so – but then there is the question of pesticide drift from other fields and farms.

Blogs are great – but bloggers don’t always do their homework. I’ve seen this article in several places this week, complete with its misinformation. How many people are going to skim it and take it as gospel truth about organic food?
