Cold season is in full swing. This means people are closer together and diseases spread more quickly. Worst of all, your immune system takes a heavy hit. All of the germs in concentration batter down your immune system. Once the walls are broken down your immune system gives in. You get sick.

Consider using astragalus root to build up your immune system. If you are already sick then use this herb to get you back on your feet. Nobody enjoys being sick. So, using a natural immune system booster is a great way to fight the cold season.

What is Astragalus Root?

It is probably important to define what astragalus root is. Astragalus originates in China and has been used in Chinese medicine for centuries. It comes from the pea family. Astragalus root is harvested when the plant is four years old. The root can be processed into pills. Or, for many Eastern countries, it is eaten as is. Astragalus herb is known as an adaptogen. Adaptogens protect the body from physical, mental, and emotional stress.

So what are the health benefits of astragalus? Studies have not been numerous. However, they suggest that this herb can promote spleen health. Other organs benefited include the liver and lungs. The circulatory and nervous systems have shown to have benefits as well. Most importantly, and most studied, is the effect of astragalus on the immune system. Studies show that the immune system functions were boosted. The herb compliments the immune system. How? It works to give the immune system strength.

Above discussed the short term benefits. But, astragalus can be used long term. The long term effects are excellent. Long term is any period over six weeks. Beyond six weeks of use showed the herb to prevent colds.

There are other benefits of using astragalus root long term. Got allergies? Particularly seasonal allergies? Astragalus can help. Studies show runny noses, sneezing, and itchiness are all reduced with the herb in your system. Struggling with severe hepatitis? Looking to help fight cancer? Astragalus studies show these are true too.

Astragalus is popularly used in China. The Chinese insert the herb intravenously to help patients fight hepatitis. The results? Patients tend to live longer. Accompanied with chemotherapy, the herb appears to help survival rate in breast cancer patients.

Astragalus is safe to use in humans. It is also safe with other medications. However, be wary if you were prescribed the Zithromax Z-Pak. Taking the herb may reduce the effects of the Z-Pak. To prevent any harm, finish the Z-Pak. After the Z-Pak has been used, you can start taking astragalus. It will help build your immune system.

Some people are advised not to take astragalus. Do you have any auto-immune diseases? It should be noted that those with multiple sclerosis or lupus should avoid this herb.

Now how exactly do you take astragalus? In the United States, it is easiest to pick up a bottle of tablets. They can be found at your local nature foods store. If you are adventurous, seek out dried roots. They can be incorporated into your tea or food. The root is safe to eat.

Fighting an infection? Trying to build your immune system? Look no further than astragalus. Take as pills or eat the root. Whichever you choose, your immune system will thank you!
