Want to know how to use essential oils without diffuser? Here are some ways that you can get the aromatherapy benefits of essential oils without a diffuser.

Want to know how to use essential oils without diffuser? Here are some ways that you can get the aromatherapy benefits of essential oils without a diffuser.

One of the most common ways to use essential oils aromatically is by using an essential oil diffuser. The problem is that diffusers cost money, which you may not have at the moment.

Don’t let a lack of money keep you from reaping the aromatic benefits of essential oils! Below, you’ll find some easy tips and tricks on how to use essential oils without diffuser.

Even if you don’t have a diffuser, you’ll still get the aromatic benefits of essential oils. And, you can hold off buying one until you have the extra cash.

How to Use Essential Oils without Diffuser

Use your Hands:

Put 1-2 drops of the essential oil of your choice in the palm of your hand. Rub your palms together and cup your hands around your nose.

Breathe in through your mouth and out through your nose. If you would rather not use your hands, simply use a tissue or cotton ball instead!

Use a Cup of Boiling Water:

This method is great if using essential oils for respiratory support. Use your kettle to bring some water to a boil (you could also use a small pot on the stove).

Once the water has boiled, pour it into a mason jar or glass/ceramic mug with a small opening (do not use a bowl). Add 1-3 drops of essential oil such as peppermint or wintergreen. Then take a towel and drape it around your mouth and nose, so that your eyes are protected from the steam.

Place your nose about 6 inches away from the top of the jar (adjust as needed) and breathe in the steam through your nose slowly. Breathing in slowly is key as the aroma of the essential oil can be quite strong.

Safety Tip: Be very careful not to place your face to close to the steam as it could create a burn. Avoid using this method with children as the steam will be too hot on their faces!

Essential Oil Diffuser Necklace:

There are many essential oil diffuser necklaces on the market! These necklaces come in the form of a locket. You open the locket and put 1-3 drops of essential oil on the felt pad inside.

After closing the locket, the aroma will come out of the small openings on the front as you wear the necklace during the day. This is the perfect way to enjoy the aroma of your favorite essential oil anywhere you go!

Essential Oil Shower Pucks:

You can also make all natural shower pucks/bombs using essential oils, water and baking soda! The idea is that you place the puck on the floor of your shower.

The hot water helps to break the puck down and allows you to be able to inhale the aroma in the steam of the shower! Like the cup of boiling water, please be careful that you do not get essential oil steam in your eyes!

If you do get it in your eyes, remember that you can used fractionated coconut oil to help reduce the stinging. This is discussed in more detail in the essential oil safety post .

Awesome to learn some new ways to use essential oils I have kicking around. The necklaces are becoming extremely popular, I have a friend who gets migraines a lot and bought the necklace, adds essential oils and it just keeps her soothed throughout the day and has been getting them less frequently.

Very good idea. I like to put EOs on kleenex now and again. That works well for me.
