Are you looking to find affordable essential oils for your family? Here’s a breakdown of the cost of using essential oils in your home.
Affordable Essential Oils for Your Family
Many people are interested in naturally supporting their family’s health and wellness and are interested in using essential oils to do so. However, many people never try essential oils due to the perceived cost. Today I wanted to share some real information about the cost of the essential oils I use so that you have a better idea as to whether or not you can make the cost work with your family’s budget!
Essential Oil Cost Facts:
Not all essential oils are created equal. Higher quality essential oils (without synthetic fillers) generally are more expensive because they have ONLY essential oil in the bottle. That being said, you can be assured that the oils I use are of good quality and I highly recommend them.
The average 15ml bottle of essential oil contains approximately 250 drops of essential oil. Please note that this varies as some oils such a citrus oils are thinner while others like vetiver are heavier.
Each time you use an essential oil you only need a few drops. If you are using a diffuser you may use a few more drops (3-4 drops), however you are still using a very small quantity each time.
1 bottle of essential oil can be used for many different things. For today’s post we will use lemon as an example.
Cost of Lemon Essential Oil
A 15ml bottle of Lemon essential oil from Rocky Mountain Oils is $11 on their website (this may vary if purchased on Amazon).
Let’s work out the approximate cost per drop:
$11.00 divided by 250 drops = $0.044
That means that 1 drop of lemon essential oil costs only 4 cents!
Using 3 drops of lemon essential oil in your diffuser would help to cleanse & purify the air in your home while also helping to lift your mood and would cost only 12 cents!
Mixing 4 drops of lemon essential oil with 3-4oz of water (in a glass spray bottle) would allow you to clean surfaces in your home and would cost only 16 cents!
Putting 1 drop of lemon essential oil on the sole of each foot would help to lift your spirits and would cost a total of 8 cents.

Now I should note that lemon, like most citrus oils is one of the most affordable essential oils. One of the more expensive essential oils is frankincense which works out to $0.34 per drop. That being said you will see that most essential oils range from $10-$30 per 15ml bottle or 4 – 12 cents per drop.
My goal today is not to prove to you that you can afford essential oils. My goal was to give you a better idea of the average cost per drop (and what can be done with a drop) so you can make an informed decision as to whether there is room for essential oils in your family’s budget. I hoped this helped you to have a better understanding of the cost of essential oils!
