Taking a trip over the warmer months? Check out these must have essential oils that you won’t want to forget in your summer travels!
If you are traveling anywhere this summer there are some essential oils you are going to want to make sure you have with you on your trip!
Must Have Essential Oils for Summer Travel
Peppermint Essential Oil:
If you are on a long road trip then you will definitely want to have peppermint essential oil with you. It is wonderful in helping to soothe muscle tension. You may want to bring a carrier oil such as fractionated coconut oil or grapeseed oil as well as it will make application of peppermint to large areas such as your neck and shoulders much easier. Combine 3-4 drops of carrier oil with 2 drops of peppermint oil and apply to tense areas.
Peppermint essential oil is also great for cooling the body which is something you definitely want for summer travel! Apply a drop to the back of your neck to help you cool down. You could also mix 3-4 drops of peppermint essential oil with 4oz of water in a glass spray bottle and spritz on your body to help you cool down.
Orange Essential Oil:
When combined with peppermint, orange essential oil is great for helping to lift your spirits and give you an energy boost! I would suggest getting a car diffuser and combining the 2 oils in your diffuser to help you stay awake when traveling.
Note: Do not apply orange essential oil to areas of your body which will be exposed to direct sunlight as citrus oils are photosensitive and could cause your skin to burn.
Lavender Essential Oil:
After a long trip lavender is a great oil to help you relax or to help you stay calm during a long trip! Apply 1-2 drops of lavender essential oil to the back of your neck to help you relax!
If you are outside this summer, chances are you will be exposed to bugs, which often means bug bites! Apply lavender to bug bites to help soothe the itch. Note: scratching the bug bite and then applying lavender will not be pleasant and will result in a burning feeling once you apply the lavender. Try to apply lavender as soon as you notice the itch to avoid this.
Lavender is also very helpful in helping to soothe skin that is exposed to the sun and gets burned. Mix 2 drops of lavender with 1 tsp of carrier oil and apply to the affected the areas to help soothe the skin and reduce itch.
Traveling with Essential Oils:
Make sure that you keep your oils in a cool (or as cool as possible), dark place when traveling. Having your oils bottles exposed to the sun for long periods of time will affect the quality of oils. I often keep my oils in an insulated zippered bag in the trunk when traveling to ensure they are protected.
Traveling with Carrier Oils:
Sometimes the seal on certain carrier oils isn’t great and some bottles easily leak. If you are worried about this, put your carrier oil in an empty essential oil bottle. Be sure you properly clean the empty bottle to remove the residue of the essential oil before adding the carrier oil.
There you have it, must have essential oils for summer travel!
