Essential oils for winter immune support

Well it’s official, winter is definitely here! It seems that as the weather gets colder the germs start to fly and so does all the fun stuff that comes with it! Essential oils can play a big role in your home, especially during the cold months!

5 Winter Wellness Essential Oils

Immune Support Essential Oil Blend

Regardless of which essential oil company you use, you want to get an essential oil blend which is specific to immune support. These blends will likely contain words such as ‘immune’, ‘strength’, ‘protective’ etc. Add 3-4 drops of this blend to your diffuser to allow your whole family benefit from this blend. You can also add 1-2 drops of this blend to the sole of each foot. You can even make your own diy essential oil hand sanitizer!

We like to use this Immune Strength blend in our home!

Lemon Essential Oil

Lemon essential oil is fantastic for cleaning and disinfecting surfaces and also cleansing the air! The easiest method for cleansing the air is using the diffuser as discussed above! You can also use a lemon essential oil in an easy cleaning spray! Check out this recipe using lemon and tea tree essential oil.

Oregano winter wellness essential oils

Oregano Essential Oil

Oregano essential oil is an absolute must to have in your home this winter! Oregano is also great in helping to support a healthy immune system and is high in antioxidants. It is known as a ‘hot’ oil which means that you need dilute it with a carrier oil such as fractionated coconut oil or jojoba oil. You can learn more about essential oil safety and hot oils here. You can also ingest oregano essential oil (put it in a veggie capsule) but you MUST MAKE SURE that the bottle states for ‘dietary use’ or ‘supplement facts’. If you don’t see either of these then do not ingest the oil! To learn more about whether or not you should ingest essential oils read this post which shares both sides of the debate.

Eucalyptus Essential Oil

Eucalyptus essential oil is a must have for respiratory support! You can apply 1-2 drops directly to your chest or you can apply 1-2 drops to the sole of each foot. One quick and easy way to use eucalyptus to help with clear breathing is to put a few drops in your shower, the steam from the shower combined with the eucalyptus is a great combination. Just be sure you don’t step where you put the oil as it may be slippery and be careful the the steam doesn’t get in your eyes.

Orange Essential Oil

The limited amount of daylight combined with the cold weather can really put a damper on our spirits during the winter! A citrus oil such as orange is great to have on hand to help uplift your mood. If you do not have orange you can also use another citrus oil such as lemon as mentioned above! Try infusing orange essential oil in your diffuser! No diffuser? Not to worry! Here are some ways to use essential oils aromatically without a diffuser!
