Lately I have been sharing uses for specific essential oils such as lavender, tea tree, eucalyptus and lemon and today I wanted to add another one to the collection! Today’s essential oil is cedarwood and it is one that you are definitely going to want to have, if you don’t already!

Cedarwood may not be as popular as the other oils that I have shared. But, there are some amazing cedarwood essential oil uses. It’s a scent that reminds me of being out in the great outdoors and has a wonderful earthy tone.

Most oil companies carry cedarwood. Although there are many ways to use cedarwood, these are my top five favorite.

Top 5 Amazing Cedarwood Essential Oil Uses

Promotes Feelings of Relaxation

Cedarwood is such a calming essential oil, one smell and you will understand exactly what I mean! Try applying cedarwood to the back of your neck, your wrists, or add a few drops to your diffuser, then sit back and let the relaxation begin!

Natural Deodorizer

Cedarwood essential oil is perfect for getting rid of any odd odors that may be lurking! Put 3-4 drops in your diffuser to naturally deodorize the air in your home! Cedarwood is also used for its deodorizing properties in many diy essential oil deodorants!

Repels Insects

Cedarwood is a great essential oil to use when you are camping, hiking, or spending any time in the outdoors as it is a great natural bug repellent! Make your own natural bug repellent spray using lemongrass, cedarwood, water and witch hazel! Get the recipe here.

Promotes a Restful Sleep

Thanks to its relaxing properties, cedarwood is an amazing oil to use to help promote a restful night’s sleep! Essential Oils Made Easy uses cedarwood in combination with lavender essential oil in both diffuser blends and roller bottle recipes to help promote sleep! I have also had success in applying 2 drops of cedarwood to the inside of my wrist and rubbing my wrists together. I usually apply it about 1 hour before bed and it helps me to sleep like a baby. If you have sensitive skin, consider diluting it with a carrier oil.

Promotes Healthy Skin Complexion

Add a few drops of cedarwood essential oil to your skin to help promote a healthy skin complexion naturally! Again, you may want to dilute it with a few drops of carrier oil before applying. You could also try applying a drop to the inside of you elbow to see if you develop a reaction. If you do, be sure to always dilute cedarwood before use, especially if used on your face!

Safety Precautions:

Like with any essential oil, there are a number of safety precautions you need to consider when using cedarwood essential oil:

Sensitive Skin: Cedarwood essential oil could potentially irritate your skin. Consider diluting it with a few drops of a carrier oil such as fractionated coconut oil, grapeseed oil, or even olive oil if you are in a pinch! You could also try applying your cedarwood essential oil to the soles of your feet as generally speaking, your skin is less sensitive there.

Pregnancy: Avoid using cedarwood essential oil during your pregnancy and while breastfeeding, unless advised otherwise by a medical professional.

Never Ingest: While certain essential oils from certain brands state that they can be ingested, cedarwood essential oil is one that you should never ingest, regardless of the essential oil company!
